Confidence

What Does It Mean to Pray With Authority?

Every Christian has the privilege of using the Name of Jesus in prayer. When you pray in Jesus’ Name, you immediately get God’s attention. Philippians 2:9-10 says, “God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” In Jesus’ Name, the believer has authority to “tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).

When you call upon someone’s name, you are placing a demand on their ability. To know how much confidence, you can place in a name, you must be able to measure the power behind it. A man writing a check places a demand on his own name. If he has the proper funds in the bank, then there is enough power to meet the demand. The power backing the Name of Jesus is the power of Almighty God Himself!

First John 3:22-23 says, “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” The mighty, powerful Name of Jesus is available to you. Become aware of your right and privilege to use it.

God’s love motivates Him to use His power. First John 4:16 says, “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us….” When you believe the love He has for you, you’ll begin to realize you have as much right to use the Name of Jesus as anyone else. Believe the love God has for you. Once you recognize the reality of God’s love in your life, you will realize He has not left you defenseless and powerless against evil. When you pray, use it freely and confidently in the face of your enemy!

“Help! Jesus, I Need You!”

Are you in trouble and need Jesus to intervene on your behalf? Have you prayed, but can’t seem to hear an answer? Do you feel like screaming, “Help, Jesus, I need You!” Let me tell you something. After Jesus defeated the devil and left the earth, the Bible says He sat down on the right hand of the Father. He sat down expecting all His enemies to be made His footstool (Acts 2:34-35).

Do you understand what that means?

It means Jesus is not pacing around wringing His hands. He’s seated, confident in His victory. So you and I need to start acting that way too. We need to talk and act like Jesus has actually taken authority over the devil and his bunch. We shouldn’t go around crying and acting like He never went to the Cross. We shouldn’t scream and carry on and wait for someone to come get the devil off of us.

No! As far as He’s concerned, it’s done. So we need to learn to act as though it’s done as far as we’re concerned too.

We need to say, “Thank You, LORD! Praise You, Jesus!” and tell the devil, “You take your dirty hands off me and my loved ones. Don’t you realize that Jesus is seated on the right hand of the Father?”

Remember this: You don’t look up at the devil, you look down at him. He’s under your feet!

Is it possible to have that kind of confidence in the midst of the difficulties you may be facing right now? Yes! The WORD of God says so. In Psalm 112, it says that the man who fears The LORD and delights greatly in His commandments “shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.”

That kind of person is locked in. He’s not crying, “Help, Jesus, I Need You!” He’s sure that the victory is his. Once you have that kind of assurance, nothing will be able to move you.
